Learn how to harvest smartly, keep fish fresh, and increase profit during peak winter season...
The harvest season is the most rewarding time for a fish farmer, but also the most sensitive. Every step, from catching to chilling to marketing, affects your final income. By following proper handling, using ice correctly, and selling fish in small batches instead of all at once, farmers can achieve steady sales, better prices, and reduced losses. Combined with Hi Tech’s scientifically formulated feed, this approach guarantees strong, healthy, and market-preferred fish. So this winter, harvest smartly, keep your fish fresh, your buyers satisfied, and your profits high.
As temperatures begin to fall in October and November, fish farmers across Pakistan enter one of the most rewarding times of the year - the harvest season. After months of feeding, monitoring, and managing ponds, this is when all the hard work pays off. But small mistakes during harvest can lead to big losses. Poor handling, rushing to sell, or ignoring post-harvest care can reduce both fish quality and price. Follow smart practices, especially proper icing and selling in batches, to keep profits consistent.
In Punjab, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the ideal harvest period is from late October to February. Cooler temperatures below 25°C slow fish metabolism, making it the right time to harvest. Consumer demand peaks during winter, especially in urban markets. Success lies in selling at the right time, in the right condition.
Avoid harvesting the entire pond at once. Instead, sell in batches to balance supply with market demand. This helps maintain steady income and 10–15% higher profits. Divide the farm into sections and harvest only what’s needed for the week.
Use ice immediately after harvest. Maintain a ratio of 1:3 (ice:fish) for short trips, and up to 1:1.5 for longer ones. Layer ice properly and use clean, insulated containers. Proper icing can extend freshness up to 36 hours.
During transport, avoid stacking heavy loads. Keep fish shaded and ventilated. At the market, re-ice fish and display neatly. Farmers maintaining hygiene earn Rs. 20–30/kg more than others.
Study market trends before harvesting. Medium Rohu (800g–1kg) sells fastest, while Catla and Carp depend on city preference. Selling in small batches helps reach multiple markets — local and urban.
